I’m approaching a final design for our s165, while Xevian is looking into how to *eventually* add multiplayer features to our game. We’d really love to have co-op and competitive multiplayer capabilities.
Little talk for this dev-night, just the game running!
(there are more videos on our youtube account)
These explosions are straight from the awesome detonator for UNITY, we are going to have our own custom fireworks for the final game, but for the current state of the project, they are perfect.
Also, we have to work on the emissive shader and particle effects to have the game objects stand out more against the game background.
It’s finally time to re-design our old staship! The 3D model we are using to test game mechanics is still the one from G!
The S165 “mule” it’s an heavy duty vehicle, a mix between a spaceship and a forklift. I’ts a sturdy ship, designed to work in hazardous environments like asteroid fileds. In addition to a reinforced hull, the S165 equips two redundant energy generators that are able to sustain an heavy magnetic shielding for long periods of time, effciently safeguarding the pilot from radiations during minerary operations or mainteinance duty.
One of the starships the player is going to use during the game it’s a modified version of the s165, equipped with this new revolutionary tractor beam technology.
My goal for the new starship look is to create a spaceship that feels like a sturdy space-forklift, buthchered a little bit to have an experimental technology fit into his hull, without looking terrible.
At the beginning I took as a reference the concepts done for “IMPACT” (an old project similar to this one) but they were looking too hi-tech or too much like military vehicles. Considering that one of the definig characteristics of the S165 is to be completely un-armed I had to stop and try to find a shape that looked a little bit more like a working vehicle… I’m not there yet, but I think the middle silouette is going in the right direction.
It’s almost 3 AM here in Spaghettiland, but it’s time to post an update! :D
Real life slowed down the development schedule a little bit lately, but now we’re back on track.
Tonight the fearsome magnetic-mine has been properly textured, and we now have some nice particle effects for our starships thrusters.
Also, the G-starship (aka s165 MULE) has been featured on this awesome t-shirt from indievault.it! This supreme piece of clothing was designed as a reward for the community first dev contest, “Flatland“.
